Updating to iOS 7

This article will walk you through updating your iOS devices to the new Operating System and whether you should

Notes about the iOS 7 update you should know

  1. If you currently are using MokiTouch you will need to go into the app settings and "Unenroll the device" and enter the enrollment code again and hit "Enroll this device" to pass the required authentication information to MokiManage
  2. When enrolling MokiTouch it will look like your device is listed twice, use the device listed in black text to push profiles to
  3. The "Lock the Home Button" profile to disable the home button has been disallowed, if you are using this you must switch to the Guided Access mode the device gives you
  4. Apple Configurator will automatically install iOS 7 on your devices 
  5. If you are using MokiTouch and are not currently running version 1.6.3, when you upgrade to iOS 7 it will upgrade it for you. Due to changes in iOS 7 you will then need to open MokiTouch settings on the device, unenroll the app and then enroll it again in order to communicate with the device

 

Note: You will need someone at the device to update the operating system, you will not be able to do this remotely.

Section 1: Getting to your device's Settings app

You must be able to get to your device's Settings app and therefore must remove any profiles preventing this. There are two profiles that prevent this, "Lock the Home Button" and "App Lock"

  1. Lock the Home Button users
    • Have the person on the device power cycle the device (turn the device off and then back on)
    • Open the "Settings" app
    • Go to "General," if you aren't already
    • Select "Software Update" on the top right, it should be the second from the top
    • There will be a button letting you know if there is a software update available
    • Click the "Update" button
    • Once it has finished, power cycle the device
    • Once the device has turned back on, open the app you use in your Kiosk, whether it is MokiTouch or your own app
  2. App Lock users
    • Go to MokiManage.com
    • Go to the Devices tab
    • Select your device
    • Click the "Inventory" tab on the far right
    • Extend the "Profiles" section
    • Click the trash can icon next to the App Lock profile (You could have called it by any name)
    • Click the "Remove" button to confirm that you want to remove the profile
    • Have the person on the device open the "Settings" app
    • Go to "General," if you aren't already
    • Select "Software Update" on the top right, it should be the second from the top
    • There will be a button letting you know if there is a software update available
    • Click the "Update" button
    • Once it has finished, go back to MokiManage.com
    • Select your device from the device list
    • Click the drop down next to iOS profiles
    • Select the App Lock profile you use
    • Click the "Apply to Devices" confirmation button
    • Your app should open on the device
